Arnhem Sinfoniëtta is the largest non-professional symphony orchestra in Arnhem and the surrounding area. The orchestra performs several concerts annually in Arnhem and its vicinity. Other artists regularly participate in the concerts: famous soloists, young talents, choirs, and sometimes even dancers. The orchestra is conducted by Alexej Pevzner. He was born in Moscow in 1972 and studied at the famous Gnessin Music School and at the Conservatory's Music College. In 1990, Alexej Pevzner moved to the Netherlands where he completed his violin education at the Sweelinck Conservatorium Amsterdam. Musis has the privilege of possessing a beautiful Kam and van der Meulen organ from 1842. This two-manual organ was originally built as a salon organ and later fitted with a pipe front. Since 1931, the organ hung in the dome of Museum Arnhem, where it was damaged during World War II. In 1968, it was restored by the Leeflang company. Thanks to the initiative of city organist Johan Luijmes, it has now found its place in the balcony hall at Musis. Would you like to hear and experience how this beautiful organ sounds? In 1817, Franz Schubert gave death a sound and a voice with the song Der Tod und das Mädchen. The pale piano chords at the start and the overall theme of death continued to occupy him, and in 1824 he composed his fourteenth string quartet with this song in mind. It literally appears in the second movement of this masterpiece, and there are many references in the other movements. With this quartet, Schubert crowned Beethoven, as the young Amaris Quartet demonstrates during this lunch concert.
